How to Replace an audi car key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located at the top of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins and they serve different purposes but the best method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline jump out but the 4th stay shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get zero Ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The replacement audi car key will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, as i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that must be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. To accomplish this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to the engine shutting down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or an unfire when in the gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. They're inexpensive and easy to locate, especially if they're an Bosch model like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part would be a good option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a variety of issues in your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi smart key replacement, as it transmits information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the car key replacement audi's engine is spinning. The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through a grey wire. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer. You should see around 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins.
